The navigator managed to find an unplanned dirt road out of Meekatharra to Sandstone. Didn't see another car. However we had a near miss with two heifers but the driver was able to call on his amazing skills and miss both. Phew!
From Sandstone we headed off to Leonora on bitumen so the navigator promptly went to sleep. Bored!
We are now travelling with a very different species of grey nomads. They are a small group with lots of old vans like ours and even dirtier than ours.
People Story:- This morning Mary watched with great admiration as a lady backed in her 16ft van like a champion. On the way back from the showers she managed to bump into said lady for a yarn.
Dawn was from Geelong Vic and was one of 10 vans that pulled in whilst we were still having breakfast. Turns out they were gold fossickers. They had come in for their weekly shower, laundry and food run. Would love to have spent time with them as they seemed like great people.
We are now in Laverton and the photo above is the main street.
After spending time in their Outback Hall of Fame you have to be careful of not being too quick to judge by appearances. It has an amazing history from about the 1860s but today is typical of a town rejuvinated by the mining boom.
