The middle camel is Jackie and Pa followed her form all day but simply donated to the one bookie's super fund. Jimmy Sturgess from home actually was one of the judges - they ran out of volunteers and he was standing near by and agreed to help. Jimmy told us that the 5th race was for anyone who had not won a race. A European Back-packer who had never riden a camel before was offered a ride - and yes she accepted and yes she won! A true story. Could only happen in Boulia.
Most of the jockeys were young females.
They camels came from Victoria and NSW as well as NT and Q'land.
