However here the attendents have to lead their camel and jockey the 450metres to the starting line which is made up of posts buried in the red dirt about 8 feet apart! They gave up starting gates as the camels who decide they are not ready to run simply sit down. In  one race two sat down and one decided she was over it and took off and raced on her own. The crowd cheered and guess who won! It was OK because the little female jockey was in every race. I suspect the camel was too!
